Who We Are
Hawk Bayou is a family Ásatrú and Heathen kindred located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where we honor the Gods and Goddesses of our Ancestors.
What We Believe
The word "Ásatrú" means "faith in the Gods," roughly translating to “belief in the Æsir,” but it is best described as a modern interpretation of pre-Christian Nordic and Germanic faiths.
Long before Christianity came to northern Europe, the people there - our ancestors - had their own religions. One of these is what we now call Ásatrú, though at the time it had no official name, being simply the way people lived. It was originally practiced in the lands that are today Scandinavia, England, Germany, France, and the Netherlands, among others, but is now practiced by people worldwide.
Ásatrú as practiced by the Norse peoples had much in common with the religions of other Germanic tribes, and with their cousins the Celts, and may be thought of as one version of a general European religion. Many modern adherents draw from the practices of several different north-European peoples, which has led several to refer to themselves simply as "Heathen."
